Registered Manager - EBD Children's Home (Colchester)

Location: Colchester, Essex Contract: Full-time, Permanent Reports to: Responsible Individual / Director Regulatory Framework: Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 & Quality Standards

? Role Purpose

The Registered Manager leads a residential children's home supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). The role ensures the home provides a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children can thrive. This includes full regulatory compliance, staff leadership, safeguarding oversight, and delivering consistently high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Provide strong, visible leadership to the staff team, modelling best practice and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring a stable, child-centred environment.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and develop staff, ensuring high performance and retention.

  • Lead team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and performance reviews.

? Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within required timeframe).

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a senior role within a children's residential EBD setting.

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, safeguarding legislation, and Ofsted requirements.

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive improvement.

Desirable

  • Experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager.

  • Additional therapeutic training (e.g., PACE, Attachment & Trauma, Restorative Practice).

  • Full UK driving licence.
