Private Sector Housing Manager

Buckingham Futures is recruiting a Private Sector Housing Manager to join a forward-thinking local authority in Essex on a permanent basis.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record in private sector housing, enforcement, and team management. You will play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, improving housing conditions, and leading a highly capable team.

• Provide strategic leadership and direction across private sector housing functions.
• Manage, support, and develop a high-performing housing team.
• Oversee service delivery, including enforcement, HMO licensing, and housing standards.
• Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet local housing needs.
• Manage budgets, resources, and service performance against key indicators.
• Represent the service at senior-level meetings, tribunals, and legal proceedings where required.

• Extensive experience managing private sector housing or environmental health services.
• In-depth knowledge of housing legislation, particularly the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Proven ability to drive service transformation and improve performance.
• Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic planning.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Housing is desirable.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH) preferred.
