Summary of the Role
As a member of our software team, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where your ideas and contributions will be valued and respected, working closely on-site with our engineering and hardware teams in Colchester. In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and documenting software functionalities, particularly in the areas of X‑ray image analysis and motion control.
You will work on complex hardware‑software interaction problems that require strong analytical and data‑driven approaches to enhance usability and extend system capabilities.
- Develop and maintain software for Nordson Automated X-ray Metrology systems
- Work with cross‑functional engineering teams
- Document software designs and instructions for use
- Support and debug field issues
- Participate in code reviews and code audits
- Transfer code into volume manufacture
- Mentor less experienced software engineers
- Stay up to date with the latest software techniques and trends
- Undertake any other reasonable duties
- Degree in Computer Vision, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong foundation in computer vision, image processing, or signal processing
- Proven experience reconstructing raw image data into accurate 3D models
- Proactive, data‑driven approach to problem solving
- Proficiency in C++ development in a multi‑threaded environment for performance‑critical applications
- Familiarity with GPU programming and parallel computing
- Experience with Behaviour‑Driven Development (BDD) and/or Test‑Driven Development (TDD)
- Experience with code management and issue tracking tools
- Customer‑facing experience
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Experience working in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) or Dev Ops environments (CI/CD, unit testing, TDD)
- Software development on 64-bit Windows 10/11 platforms
- Understanding of X‑ray inspection and materials testing
- Experience designing motion control software for robotics or automated systems
- Experience with C# development in multi‑threaded environments
Travel is typically ≤10% (domestic & international), including regular trips between Aylesbury and Colchester depending on business needs, and occasional international travel to customer sites.
