School Crossing Patrol Officer – Langenhoe Primary School

Role Overview

Permanent, Term Time – 7.5 hours per week (morning 08:00‑09:00, afternoon 14:45‑15:45) during the 39‑week academic year. Hourly pay £13.00.

Location – Colchester, Essex. Working style: operational field‑based worker. Uniform, equipment and training provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.
• Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired individuals wishing to use the crossing point.
• Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
• Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify any problems; report problems and defects to supervisor.
• Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
• Ensure all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
• Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
