Overview
The Design Value Stream function supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through proper technical product and engineering principles as well as appropriate development of employees and management. The Design Value Stream is a business unit that encompasses quoting, engineering, quality, project management, production planning and procurement.
The Project Manager is an integral member of the Design Value Stream that works closely with the Design Value Stream Manager to ensure successful customer interface, execution, and shipment of technically challenging new and aftermarket engineered products.
Responsibilities- Act as the primary point of contact with the customer and be responsible for all communications and customer satisfaction after contract award.
- Define the scope of supply for awarded contracts, including the need for internal deliverables and customer submittals. Collaborate with the Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer to establish milestones and determine high level work priority based on the milestone schedule.
- Monitor the status of assigned contracts through engineering, job creation, procurement, manufacturing, testing and shipping stages.
- Interface and collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, Quality, Sales, Test and Engineering to meet contract objectives.
- Negotiate changes to contracts as required and identify scope increases, including terms and conditions, submittals, delivery expectations, and pricing.
- Execute the communications plan for project requirements and document delays, scope changes, and incidents impacting scope or schedule.
- Prepare monthly revenue forecasts for the Design Value Stream in collaboration with the Design Value Stream Manager.
- Communicate task schedules to project team members to ensure timely completion and advocate for required resources when necessary.
- Forecast and mitigate potential problems on contracts before they arise.
- Coordinate and chair meetings to ensure planned activity occurs and quality meets project requirements.
- Manage multiple, parallel projects using formal project planning techniques.
- Maintain contract files in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Produce regular status reports assessing contract status relative to cost, delivery, customer submittals, milestone completion, and risk.
- Coordinate product packaging and shipping per contract requirements and ensure progress payments and final invoices are executed on time.
- Create and maintain Health of Contract Report to monitor project performance to budget and schedule, and document an Issues List of unplanned obstacles to contract satisfaction; resolve all items before formal closure.
- Develop post-shipment contract reviews including assessment of cost, delivery, quality, and other contract-specific requirements; communicate improvement ideas to the team for future contracts.
- Secondary duties: assist in development of project quotes, participate in training and coaching of team members, and help develop department plans, goals, policies and procedures.
- Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
- BS in Engineering or Project Management or equivalent job experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing government projects in a project/contract-based business preferred.
- Experience in managing research and development projects in engineered products preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, terms and conditions, and customer specifications.
- Expected travel is up to 10% yearly.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project and the Internet.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail oriented and highly motivated.
- Possess high level of personal initiative.
- Able to facilitate geographically distributed and cross-functional project teams.
