We are seeking a part-time (0.50 FTE) Educational Assistant to commence as soon as possible and for the remainder of the  school year. This assignment involves assisting with student educational program needs including social skills, behaviour skills, self-help and personal care needs. This position requires a compassionate and energetic individual to work in a team environment.

Cold Lake High School is located in the City of Cold Lake with approximately 580 students in grades 10-12. Cold Lake High School is an innovative, collaborative and passionate in the delivery of high quality education for every student.

• Post-Secondary training and/or experience as an Educational Assistant
• Knowledge and experience with behavioral strategies
• Experience working one-on-one and/or in group settings
• Knowledge of documentation procedures and proficiency with computers
• Knowledge and experience in alternate communication strategies
• Experience assisting students with self-help and personal care needs
• Familiarity with strategies to address different learning styles and experience with Individual Program Plans
• Used Neuro-affirming practices to create a nurturing and supportive learning environment celebrating each child’s strengths and individuality preparing for school readiness in the future
• Ability to apply proactive de-escalation strategies to effectively manage student dysregulation and maintain a safe learning environment

• Relative experience in educational assistance, nursing and/or rehabilitation
• Experience and/or training with Autistic Spectrum Disorder
• SIVA and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
• Thorough knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and characteristics of effective interventions
• Ability to recognize early indicators of sensory or emotional distress in students and can intervene with calming, non-reactive support
