Position Summary: The Medical Imaging Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and performance verification of medical imaging equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, general radiographic systems, portable X-ray units, mammography machines, ultrasound devices, bone densitometers, C-arms, and related support equipment. The role requires a broad understanding of various imaging modalities, along with the flexibility to service equipment beyond the imaging specialty as needed.

The engineer also supports regulatory compliance efforts, assists with equipment inventory, and provides technical expertise regarding imaging systems. All responsibilities are carried out in alignment with Insight’s core values—demonstrating respect, delivering value, driving positive change, and upholding integrity in all professional interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Service: Carry out routine performance checks, preventive maintenance, and functional testing on medical imaging systems. Handle the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance. Provide regular updates to leadership regarding repair progress, maintenance schedules, equipment functionality, and staff feedback. Oversee and log the work of third-party vendors, service contractors, and external technicians to ensure quality and compliance.

    Stay current with advancements in clinical engineering by participating in continuous learning and professional development opportunities. Support departmental initiatives and contribute to assigned service-related projects as needed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date equipment database, including asset records, preventive maintenance timelines, standardized naming, and service logs. Adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), ensuring alignment with applicable regulations and internal protocols. Complete all service records promptly and accurately, maintaining thorough and compliant documentation. Work alongside medical physicists to validate radiation levels and ensure equipment performance meets safety and regulatory standards.
  • Relationship Management: Discuss equipment status, functionality, and concerns with stakeholders. Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Insight Foundation in all interactions. Provide a positive representation of Insight Foundation by integrating core values into daily activities.
  • Inventory Management: Conduct routine inspections and maintain a stock of commonly failing components to maximize equipment uptime. Review and validate newly acquired equipment. Perform incoming inspections to ensure accurate tracking of all medical devices, including rental, trial, and permanently assigned equipment. Provide recommendations for inventory enhancements and optimization.
  • Other Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support the organization’s mission and goals.
Skills and Experience
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining medical imaging equipment including Ultrasound, general X-ray, and CT
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) and networking applications
  • Ability to interpret error codes, replace hardware components, and navigate computer systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Education and Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a technical/electronics field, equivalent military training, or two years of equivalent experience required
  • 2-3 years of experience in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of medical imaging equipment preferred
  • Frequently required to bend, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs while working with medical equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required; occasional travel to various sites may be necessary
