Job Description & How to Apply Below

Coldwater Painting is hiring Crew Leaders / Foremen for residential and commercial painting projects.

This position is for experienced painters who can help lead work on job sites, keep crews moving, communicate clearly, and help make sure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to Coldwater Painting standards.

A good fit for this role is someone who has strong painting experience, takes pride in quality, can lead by example, and can help newer or less experienced workers stay productive. This is a hands‑on leadership position — not just a management role. Crew Leaders / Foremen are expected to work alongside the crew while helping organize the job.

Starting Pay

Expected starting range: $22–$27 per hour

Starting pay is based on verified painting experience, technical knowledge, demonstrated skill, leadership ability, reliability, communication, productivity, and company needs.

Crew Leaders / Foremen may help with:

  • Leading small crews on residential or commercial painting projects
  • Reviewing job scope and helping plan daily work
  • Setting up job sites and assigning tasks
  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Brush and roll work
  • Masking, prep, caulking, sanding, patching, and priming
  • Airless spraying, depending on experience
  • Working from ladders, lifts, or elevated surfaces when comfortable and qualified
  • Helping track materials, supplies, tools, and jobsite needs
  • Communicating with supervisors about progress, issues, delays, or changes
  • Helping identify quality issues before final walkthroughs
  • Keeping crews focused, productive, and respectful on the job site
What We’re Looking For

A good candidate should be:

  • An experienced painter with strong jobsite knowledge
  • Dependable and able to show up on time
  • Able to work full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Available for occasional Saturdays if needed
  • Able to lead by example and work alongside the crew
  • Comfortable giving direction to helpers or painters
  • Able to communicate clearly with supervisors and team members
  • Able to recognize prep, paint, masking, or quality issues
  • Respectful around customers, coworkers, and property
  • Honest about experience level and willing to follow company procedures
Experience

This position is generally for applicants with strong painting experience and some level of leadership ability.

Applicants may be a fit if they have:

  • 3–5+ years of painting experience
  • Crew leader, foreman, or lead painter experience
  • Experience helping train or direct other workers
  • Strong prep and application knowledge
  • Experience on residential and/or commercial repaint projects
  • Ability to keep work moving without constant supervision

Applicants who are experienced painters but have not officially been a foreman may still apply. We may consider strong painters for this role if they show leadership potential.

Physical Requirements

This work may include standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying paint, tools, ladders, and other jobsite materials. Some materials may weigh 50 lbs or more and may require team lifting or safe handling. Work may also include using hand tools, climbing ladders, working outdoors, and being around normal construction jobsite conditions such as paint, dust, odors, and fumes.

Applicants do not need to be comfortable with every type of work, but we need to understand what each applicant is comfortable doing, including ladders, lifts, and elevated surfaces.

Travel

Residential work is generally local, while commercial projects may require travel to other areas in Michigan, Indiana, or surrounding states. Some jobs may include longer drive times, hotel stays, or overnight travel depending on the project.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites
  • A valid driver’s license preferred
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Willingness to complete a background check if requested
  • Strong painting experience
  • Ability to help lead and organize work on job sites
  • A dependable attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
