Environmental Officer

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit an Environmental Officer .

This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional to take ownership of an established Environmental Management System while supporting sustainability and continuous improvement across a busy manufacturing site.

Working closely with operational teams and senior management, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, maintaining ISO 14001 certification, driving environmental performance, and supporting the organisation's sustainability objectives.

In your new role:

• Manage and continually improve the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
• Coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits, ensuring ongoing certification and compliance
• Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain environmental policies, procedures, and associated documentation
• Monitor and report on key environmental performance metrics, including waste, energy, water, emissions, and recycling
• Analyse environmental data and prepare reports for senior management
• Identify and implement initiatives to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact
• Support sustainability projects and help deliver environmental objectives and targets
• Investigate environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, waste contractors, and external auditors as required

What you'll need to succeed:

• Experience with in an Environmental, Sustainability, or Environmental Compliance role
• Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
• Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste management, water treatment, and energy management
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while driving continuous improvement

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

• Experience managing or supporting an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System
• Degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline
• Experience with in food manufacturing or another regulated production environment
• Membership of a recognised professional body such as IEMA
