Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation to appoint an experienced Paint Supervisor to lead their Paint Department.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Industrial Painter, Senior Painter or Paint Supervisor with a background in heavy engineering, fabrication or industrial manufacturing to step into a key leadership position.
You'll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Paint Department, leading a skilled team and ensuring painting and finishing activities are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule and to a high-quality standard.
The role would suit someone who has strong hands-on experience with industrial paint systems, surface preparation and coating application, and who is now looking to take greater ownership of production, people and quality.
In Your New Role
- Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Paint Department
- Organise and prioritise workloads in line with production schedules and customer deadlines
- Allocate work across the team based on skills, experience and workload
- Ensure surface preparation, painting and finishing activities are completed to specification
- Oversee industrial painting processes and ensure the correct application methods and paint systems are used
- Monitor jobs through the department and identify potential delays, quality issues or production risks
- Ensure work is completed correctly first time, minimising defects, rework and downtime
- Carry out in-process quality checks and ensure finished products meet customer specifications
- Investigate paint defects and support corrective actions and continuous improvement
- Work closely with Production and Quality teams to resolve issues and maintain workflow
- Ensure job cards, drawings, weld records and production paperwork are completed accurately
- Monitor paint, consumables and equipment requirements and report shortages or issues
- Supervise, motivate and develop the Paint team
- Support the onboarding and training of new employees
- Promote high standards of housekeeping and environmental control
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures, PPE requirements and safe working practices
- Promote hazard and near-miss reporting and support investigations where required
What You Will Need to Succeed
- 5+ years' experience within industrial painting, ideally within heavy engineering, fabrication or manufacturing
- 2+ years' experience in a supervisory, team lead or senior painting position
- Strong hands-on knowledge of surface preparation, industrial coatings and paint application
- Experience working with heavy-duty steel, fabricated components, machinery or similar industrial products
- Good understanding of paint quality standards, inspection requirements and finishing specifications
- Experience working to production schedules and customer deadlines
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Experience identifying and resolving paint defects, quality issues and rework
- Strong understanding of safe working practices within an industrial painting environment
- Proven ability to lead, organise and motivate a production team
- Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills
