Chef - Accommodation

The Y Canberra Accommodation Services team are currently on the lookout for a Part Time Chef
. The Y Canberra Region have two accommodation sites, Leumeah Lodge in Nicholls and Bush Capital Lodge in O’Connor, which predominately host school groups, community groups and free independent travellers. The Accommodation Services team form part of the wider Y Canberra Region organisation, which provides services to our community such as health and recreation, childcare, and early childhood learning centres.

The primary focus of this role is to prepare and serve nutritious and delicious food to our groups that adhere to specific group needs and dietary or cultural requirements.

Ability to work predominantly Monday-Friday. We are looking to fill offer support to our chefs in a part time capacity with the potential of a full-time contract should we find a candidate who is the right fit for our diverse and dynamic team.

• Prepare, cook, present and serve dishes according to the direction of the Head Chef
• Assist the head chef to create new seasonal menu options
• Address all special dietary requirements with a high level of attention to detail while maintaining food quality and a variety of offerings
• General cleaning duties in kitchen and food preparation areas to ensure no cross contamination and the adherence to food safety and cleanliness standards
• Support the Head Chef in stock control and food storage

• Have previous experience as a qualified chef, preferably with a focus on bulk cookery that caters to the younger market
• Experience in barista coffee making or a willingness to learn
• Have knowledge on catering to simple and complex dietary requirements including working knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
• Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (or can be obtained prior to position start)
• Be well-presented and maintain professional appearance
• Have a positive customer-centric attitude and the ability to have fun working as part of a team
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, evenings and weekends
• Hold a current driver’s license or have the ability to work across sites as required
