** Job Description Summary & Additional Information
**** Organization's Summary Statement:
** The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) seeks to investigate and engage with the linguistic, cultural, cinematic, and literary worlds of speakers of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, as well as questions surrounding language learning itself. Its fourteen units are currently organized into three larger departments (East Asian Languages and Cultures;
French and Italian; Spanish and Portuguese) and seven programs (Arabic; Cinema and Media Studies; German Studies; Hebrew; Persian; Russian; and Second Language Acquisition); and the Center for East Asian Studies; the Language House Living-Learning Program, and the Summer Institute for Arabic, Korean, and Persian. The University of Maryland College Park world language program ranks in Top 20 Foreign Language Schools in the United States and The Best Foreign Language School in Maryland.
Approximately 1,000 BA/minor/graduate students and 100 faculty, TAs, and staff are engaged in this broad range of inquiry, individuals who themselves represent languages and cultures from across the globe. Through the school’s diverse ensemble of activity, our faculty and staff are united in our commitment to preparing students, undergraduate and graduate alike, to become knowledgeable, active, critically flexible, and intellectually vibrant citizens in an increasingly interconnected world and to furthering knowledge and debate about the languages, literatures, and cultures of which it is made.
The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for a full-time (40 hours) professional-track faculty position as a Lecturer in Portuguese.
