The Departments of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE) in the College of Education at the University of Maryland at College Park are searching for a 9-month Assistant Clinical Professor of School Psychology. The clinical track position is scheduled to begin August of 2026. The Department (CHSE) embraces diversity in multiple forms, including identity, background, theoretical and methodological orientations, and opinions.
CHSE is home to nationally top-ranked programs, most notably the Student Counseling and Personnel Services program, ranked 1st by the U.S. News & World Report in 2025. The College of Education itself ranked No. 15 among public graduate schools of education nationwide. The person will join a warm and welcoming program to support students in School Psychology.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will play a key role in teaching and clinical training for graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree in School Psychology in the CHSE department through in-person instruction. Core responsibilities include course development, aligning core standards with course outcomes with professional standards, coordinating and overseeing practicum placements, and providing direct supervision of students during practicum and fieldwork experiences.
The faculty member will also mentor students in their clinical and professional training by supporting internship applications, serving on thesis and dissertation committees, and participating in key program activities (e.g., APA self-study). While collaboration with faculty across School Psychology and related CHSE programs (e.g., School Counseling) is expected, the position is primarily dedicated to preparing school psychology graduate students through high-quality teaching and clinical training, with potential responsibilities in program administration.
Furthermore, the candidate must demonstrate commitment to diversity within their teaching, service, and scholarship by addressing themes of inclusion and equity.
Applicants should have experience teaching graduate students in some of the following areas in school psychology: assessment practicum, counseling practicum, fieldwork, behavior intervention, developmental psychopathology, diagnostic appraisal, etc.
Minimum Qualifications - Minimum of a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in the area of school psychology from an APA accredited program - Evidence of excellence in teaching for 2 or more semesters in a college/university setting - 1 or more years of working as a school psychologist. - License eligible in Maryland (and are expected to become licensed in Maryland within 1-2 years) - Experience and expertise in therapeutic interventions and various forms of assessments and diagnosis.
Preferred Qualifications - 2 or more years of experience working in public school settings as a school psychologist - Knowledge about school systems in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC. - Knowledge and experience with State Departments of Education - Supervision experiences (e.g., supervising graduate students) - Licensed as a psychologist Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas.
