** Organization's Summary Statement:
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Faculty Specialist to join our office on a part-time basis as an Academic Advisor (9531024) in the Office of Academic Programs. This position is crucial for supporting our students' academic success and ensuring their smooth progression through their academic programs. The Advisor will play a key role in supporting the work of the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and the Manager for Student Services.

As a time-limited role supporting specific programs and positions in the Academic Programs Office, prior experience working at the University of Maryland and with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

● Review Petitions and Requests:
Evaluate and make decisions on petitions for exceptions to academic policies and requests for permission to enroll in off-campus courses. Ensure that all reviews are conducted in accordance with university guidelines and policies.

● Process Major Changes:
Manage and process student requests for changes in their major in Terp Engage, ensuring that students have met College and Departmental requirements for completing the process and responding to questions, as needed.

● Conduct Degree Audits:
Perform thorough audits of student degree progress for juniors (60-90 credits) and seniors (91+ credits) to ensure timely graduation. Communicate with students and advisors based on audit findings.

● Advising Support for Struggling Students :
Continue to develop and refine an ELMS based course for students who are struggling academically under the direction of the assistant dean.

● Advisor training resource ELMS course:
Contribute to the content and organization of an ELMS based course for new advisors. Work with new advisors in AGNR to have them complete the training and review feedback from them on it.

● Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with faculty, advisors, and administrative staff to support student success initiatives. Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff regarding academic policies and procedures.
Physical Demands:  Capable of functioning in an office environment, with the capacity to remain seated for extended durations, operate a computer, utilize standard office tools, and convey information both verbally and in writing is essential, as has the ability to read and interpret data from both print and electronic sources for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Educational Background: A Master's degree in a related field such as Agriculture, Natural Resources, Education. or closely related discipline is required.  


Experience:

At least 4 years demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students at the University of Maryland.  


Skills:

Strong analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
● Abilities:
Ability to build courses and content in ELMS-Canvas. Knowledge of UMD advising systems.
Preferences:  
● Educational Background: A PhD in a related field such as Agriculture, Natural  Resources, Education, or a closely related discipline is preferred.  


Experience:

At least 4 years demonstrated experience working with undergraduate  students and advisors in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and familiarity with university academic policies and procedures is highly desired.



Skills:

Proficiency in using academic software and tools for student records management.  
● Abilities: A commitment to student success and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities  effectively.
