The RoleWe are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in New Product Introduction (NPI) for our Control Electronics subsystems. As an NPI Engineer, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you will serve as a critical link between our design teams, in-house production, and external manufacturing partners.
Your primary focus will be to own all control electronics subsystems from an NPI and Manufacturing Engineering perspective. You will work cross-functionally to improve designs, develop scalable manufacturing processes, and support the implementation of a robust NPI pipeline for our control electronics subsystem.
Responsibilities- Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building and testing prototype hardware, with an emphasis on the assembly and testing of electromechanical components.
- Leverage expertise in New Product Introduction (NPI) to seamlessly transition our control electronics subsystems from prototype to production, optimizing for manufacturability, cost, and supply chain scalability
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical design engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Assembly (DFA), and Test (DFT) feedback, ensuring products are optimized for efficient manufacturing processes.
- Engage in design reviews and the examination of deliverables necessary for a Technical Data Package for our electronics assemblies.
- Develop process flows, breaking down large, complex assemblies into a logical part flow of subassemblies and sub-processes
- Develop, improve, and document manufacturing processes for successfully manufacturing and testing control electronics hardware, including detailed assembly instructions, test procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design engineering, quality engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Support system-level integration and bring-up of control electronics, including device configuration, loading control software and drivers, and troubleshooting hardware/software interface issues.
- Apply Configuration Management best practices to hardware designs and manufacturing processes.
