Responsibilities
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals with a person‑centered focus.
  • Teach independent living and daily skills, identifying and meeting social, environmental, and health care needs such as grooming and personal routines.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate with residents in social activities including frequent community outings.
  • Assist with household tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, and food shopping.
Who You Will Be Supporting
  • Very detailed and organized living in the Berwyn Heights, MD area with their parents.
  • Regularly engages in various activities that they schedule themselves.
  • Very articulate and can express their needs and wants to the staff.
  • Attends swimming lessons daily during the Summer.
  • Engages in other activities like hiking and taking daily walks in the neighborhood.
  • Wants to become more efficient at performing basic household chores such as cleaning their room, making the bed, and preparing lunch.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Initiates new ideas for community outings and activities.
  • Suggests activities that enhance a variety of skills.
  • Patient because the person supported doesn’t deviate from their schedule easily and gets anxious if changes are made.
  • Punctual and runs on time for activities.
  • Willing to use personal vehicle to transport the person supported to and from activities.
  • Models appropriate social norms and behaviors to teach respect for boundaries.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution.
  • Able to communicate effectively with the individuals to whom services are provided.
  • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or other special needs populations.
  • Patience and positive coaching skills to assist the person in reaching goals.
  • Enjoying active engagement in activities, events, and volunteer efforts.
  • Resourceful in researching community activities and introducing new ideas.
