Research Engineer II

Texas A&M Engineering is seeking a Research Engineer II to work in the Aggie Fab Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for nanofabrication tool management and process development tasks in support of Aggie Fab, the main nanofabrication cleanroom facility at Texas A&M University.

The role will involve the operation, development, and process optimization for a broad suite of nanofabrication tools in Aggie Fab, including electron beam lithography, photolithography, thin film deposition, 3D printing, wafer bonding, reactive ion etching, metrology, and advanced analysis tooling.

Responsibilities:

• Developing suitable recipes to achieve optimum results from the process tools for various Aggie Fab customer research projects.
• Executing staff runs for academic and industrial customers and preparing detailed reports.
• Establishing standard operating and training procedures.
• Maintaining stable operation of tools under their purview by performing periodic control runs and obtaining inputs from the user base.
• Training academic and industrial users in the operation of tools.
• Training and supervising undergraduate student workers.
• Working with tool vendors in developing tool operations and performance enhancements.
• Establishing preventative maintenance programs and/or working with tool manufacturers to troubleshoot problems and achieve a high up-time for the user base.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What We Need:

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of related experience.

What is Helpful:

• Master's degree.
• Doctorate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with a variety of nanofabrication tools.
• Working knowledge of chemical mechanical polishing, flip-chip bonding, and 2.5D/3D heterogeneous integration.
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate continuous personal pursuit to increasing job knowledge and proficiency with different systems.
• Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and customer-oriented attitude.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work well with Aggie Fab full-time staff members and undergraduate student workers.

Other Requirements:

• The Research Engineer II may experience prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and stretching; climbing ladders and stairs of various heights; lifting equipment; and be exposed to noisy environments.
