Laboratory Assistant Technical

Job Summary

Primarily works in the lab technical departments. Assists with technical procedures within regulatory guidelines. Provides telephone and clerical support. May perform CLIA‑waived and moderate complex testing and phlebotomy.

• Practice positive patient identification at all times.
• Receive and prepare specimens; label and aliquot.
• Intake, process, and organize specimens for the technical testing area.
• Support functions: culture plating, histology staining, specimen loading on instruments.
• Review pending test lists to assist with turnaround time.
• Investigate specimen issues and customer inquiries; provide status information.
• Monitor and log supplies and reagents.
• Document calibrations, linearity, instrument comparisons under direction.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance; maintain records.
• Perform venous and capillary phlebotomy on all age groups; follow collection procedures.
• Evaluate and release test results under direction of Clinical Lab Scientist; consider quality control, instrument performance, specimen integrity.

• High School Diploma / GED (Required)
• Phlebotomy program certificate (Preferred)
• Lab Assistant Program certification (Preferred)
• 6 months experience in an acute care facility (Preferred)
• Excellent customer service and time management skills (Required)
