Job Summary

Baylor Scott & White Health has an opening for a Nurse Practitioner to join our Palliative Care Team in College Station, Texas. The ideal candidate should be focused on quality, and be able to effectively collaborate with referring physicians, agencies, and other professionals to provide optimum patient care within our award‑winning integrated healthcare system.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing or obtaining comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribe, recommend and/or employ medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments and procedures in accordance with approved protocols and policies, with attention to efficacy, safety and cost.
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence‑based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Evaluate patient’s response to healthcare provided and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of health conditions, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes; initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice.
  • Provide consultation‑level services for conditions related to the provider’s specialty and training.
  • Manage patients in healthcare settings other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency, procedural).
  • Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and competency of the provider as delegated by the supervising Physician.
  • Possibly perform patient‑care duties beyond the regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

  • Computer proficiency and use of related software applications.
  • Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based patient treatment plans.
  • Ability to counsel patients concerning medical and psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a state that is party to the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs & Texas APRN.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus required.
Schedule

Monday‑Friday 8 a‑5 p

Inpatient/Outpatient

8 patients per day

No call

Qualifications
  • EDUCATION – Graduate of an accredited program.
  • EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience.

Certification/License/Registration:

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): within 30 days of hire or transfer.
