Description
The Radiology Technologist (RT) is responsible for accurately performing x‑ray and CT scans ordered by the Emergency Room Physician. The RT will assist RNs and Physicians with all delegated tasks within their scope of practice. Within the RT’s professional practice, they are responsible for maintaining quality, cost effectiveness, and guest relations. The RT is a strong patient advocate and must effectively educate patients and family members regarding radiological studies performed during their Emergency Room visit.

- Successful completion of a two‑year program in Radiology studies.
- Current compliance with continuing medical education.
- Certification in CT is not required upon initial hire but must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Minimum of two years experience, preferably in a hospital or acute care setting.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS are preferred but not required.
- Problem‑solving abilities with the initiative to intervene immediately for patient safety.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Courtesy and respect for every staff member.
- Document all findings accurately, including pregnancy verification for females of childbearing age and documentation regarding diabetic patients and contrast iodine.
- Perform laboratory point‑of‑care testing and all CLIA‑waived testing approved by the Laboratory Director.
- Accurately document laboratory testing, critical values, and communication.
- Initiate intravenous access per physician’s order and obtain specimens for laboratory testing.
- Maintain accurate patient logs for CT, x‑ray, and ultrasound.
- Perform all daily lab and equipment checks for quality assurance.
- Maintain the facility in clean, working order in accordance with OSHA and report any equipment failure or deficiencies to the Nurse Manager.
- Review company e‑mail throughout every shift as this will be the primary means of communication.
- Accurately document any incidents and report them to the Nurse Manager and physician on duty.
- Use bio‑hazard containers correctly and empty sharps containers safely and in a timely manner.
- Perform duties in a fast‑paced emergency room.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move using proper body mechanics and agree to ask for assistance if required.
- While performing duties, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must submit to random drug screenings.
