NICU RN – Level III (Nights)Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 full years NICU experience
- Level III or IV NICU experience required
- NICU Level: III
- Beds: 13 private rooms
- Trauma Level: III
- Charting: Meditech
- Care Setting: Acute
Important:
This unit practices couplet care. NICU RNs:
- Attend deliveries and complete NICU admissions
- May assist Mother/Baby with labs, observation/transition infants, or take a newborn assignment as needed
- Prematurity (25–34 weeks)
- PPHN
- Hypoglycemia
- High respiratory acuity
- Cardiac & surgical cases are transferred out
- Partners with Texas Children’s for consults and transfer decisions
- Typically 1:2
- Occasional 1:1
- Feeder/growers may be 1:3
(AWHONN guidelines followed)
- NC, HFNC
- Bubble CPAP / BCPAP
- Vents, NIPPV
- Chest tubes
- UVC, UAC
- ELBW infants
Delivery experience: Highly preferred
Drip titration: No
- Charge nurse present and takes an assignment
- No nurse aides
- Neonatology provider in-house 24/7
- RT support with vents, CPAP, HFNC, NIPPV
- No monitor techs; RNs do not read strips
- 12-hour nights
- Every other weekend
- May be asked to work an occasional day shift
- Schedules posted 2 weeks out
- Schedule built 6 weeks at a time
- Self-scheduling with manager balancing
- Holidays rotate with core staff
- No call requirement
- May flex as resource nurse to Mother/Baby:
- Assist with circumcisions
- Draw labs
- CCHD screens
- Car seat studies
- Assist with deliveries/admissions
- If needed, may take a neonatal assignment up to 6 infants
- Navy scrubs only
- Undershirts must be navy
- Navy scrub jackets optional
- BLS
- NRP (Advanced)
- STABLE
- BSN not required
- License required at submission
