Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III Neonatal ICU position requiring a TX or compact RN license and at least 2 years of Level III or IV NICU experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a Level III NICU within an acute care hospital setting
- 13 private NICU beds, following AWHONN staffing guidelines
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3 for feeder grower infants
- Common patient cases include PPHN, prematurity (25-34 weeks), hypoglycemia, and infants requiring respiratory support
- Required to work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, with possible occasional day shifts
- May assist with newborn care on Mother Baby unit and attend deliveries as needed
- First to float, may flex to Resource nurse role supporting Mother Baby staff
- Uses MEDITECH EMR; experience with this system is preferred
- No on-call requirements
- NICU RNs are expected to assist with newborn lab work, infants on observation/transition, or take additional newborn assignments if needed
- Floating may include assisting with circumcisions, drawing labs, car seat studies, completing CCHD, and supporting deliveries and admissions
- Neonatology provider in house 24/7 for support
- No nurse aides on unit; charge nurse always takes an assignment
- Navy scrubs required for dress code, including navy undershirts and optional jacket
- Schedule posted 2 weeks in advance and is self-scheduled but finalized by the manager
- Holiday coverage rotates with core staff
- Call outs are strongly discouraged and may lead to termination
- Testing and training will be provided upon orientation
- Active TX or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent Level III or IV NICU experience
- BLS, NRP-Advanced, and STABLE certifications must be current prior to start
- Proficiency with nasal cannula, high flow NC, bubble CPAP, vents, chest tubes, UVC, UAC, ELBW infants required
- Delivery experience highly preferred
- Cannot have been directly employed by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
- Must provide 2 professional references: 1 from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and 1 from a peer or supervisor within the past 3 years
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
