Position

Job Title: Research Aide

Department: FAES | Center for Lake Erie Area Research

Assists Research Coordinator with a variety of current Stone Laboratory research projects and visiting researchers at the laboratory; assists in sample collection aboard Stone Laboratory research boats on Lake Erie; prepares chemical solutions; assists in laboratory experiments; maintains and sustains cultures of algae; conducts analytical chemistry analysis of water samples; reports data to Ohio EPA; maintains clean analytical lab glass wear;

works with concentrated and caustic acids; picks up samples collected by other researchers on the mainland; assists with Research Experience for Undergraduates Program; assists in preparation and maintenance of research facilities for utilization by visitors, faculty, researchers, and students; conducts inventory of supplies and equipment; maintains and repairs scientific equipment; provides assistance with generation of relevant laboratory reports; performs data entry and analysis as needed;

performs other duties as assigned. Position is a temporary appointment that will last from April to mid-November, 2026 (flexible beginning and end dates); position located at Put-In-Bay, Ohio.

Essential Duties
  • Assists Research Coordinator with a variety of current Stone Laboratory research projects and visiting researchers at the laboratory.
  • Assists in sample collection aboard Stone Laboratory research boats on Lake Erie.
  • Prepares chemical solutions; assists in laboratory experiments.
  • Maintains and sustains cultures of algae; conducts analytical chemistry analysis of water samples; reports data to Ohio EPA.
  • Maintains clean analytical lab glass wear; works with concentrated and caustic acids.
  • Picks up samples collected by other researchers on the mainland; assists with Research Experience for Undergraduates Program.
  • Assists in preparation and maintenance of research facilities for utilization by visitors, faculty, researchers, and students.

  • Provides assistance with generation of relevant laboratory reports; performs data entry and analysis as needed; performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience

High School graduate or Associate Degree required. 0-1 years of relevant experience/demonstrated ability in the conduct of routine field work required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred. Valid driver’s license required; experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or analytical chemistry laboratories desired.

Successful completion of a background check is required.

Applicants hired will be subject to a pre consortium drug screening upon hire and additional drug screenings if drawn through a random process throughout the season.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
