JOB SUMMARY
Employment is sought within the School of Journalism and Communication to provide expert teaching, mentorship, and industry insight. The selected individual will bring creativity, energy, and academic achievement to SJC, teaching courses in strategic communication, public relations, media writing, social media, and public speaking. Familiarity with industry accomplishments is desirable. Candidates are encouraged to inspire students, demonstrate a strong commitment to Christ, and foster teamwork.
DUTIES- Teach undergraduate courses
- Advise students
- Develop growth‑nurturing initiatives
- Participate in department and university committees
- Help oversee student projects, clubs, (e.g., PRSSA), tours, and related activities
- Help nurture a culture of scholarly and professional engagement
- Other duties as assigned
Master’s degree in Communication or a related sub‑field (Public Relations, Strategic Communication, Speech, Integrated Marketing Communication, Journalism) is required;
Ph.D. strongly preferred.
Minimum of 3+ years of industry experience or 3+ years of teaching experience.
Special RequirementsA strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh‑day Adventist Church, and membership in good standing with the SDA church is required.
Typical Physical DemandsRequires sitting, standing, bending and reaching; may require lifting up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity required for computers, fax, calculators, and telephone. Normal hearing and vision required.
Working ConditionsTasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with minimal discomfort. Work area is well illuminated and ventilated.
