VACANCY FOR

ATTENDANCE OFFICER & HOMELESS FAMILY LIAISON

Work Day: 8.5 hours (includes 1-hour unpaid lunch)

Work Year: 12 Months

Beginning Salary: $19.00 per hour minimum starting rate (depending on experience)

ESSENTIAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate.
  • Must have your own reliable automobile for transportation.
  • Must have knowledge of streets and reference points throughout the boundaries of Unit 10.
  • Must have the ability to interact with law enforcement agencies, judicial systems and other social agencies.
  • Must be able to write clear, concise written reports, internal memos and letters of correspondence.
  • Must have familiarity with community resources that may aid students and families
  • Must have working knowledge of the rights and services provided to children and youth experiencing homelessness through the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Act and other Federal and State laws and district policy
  • Must be able to plan and organize tasks and assignments.
  • Must dress in a professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to handle confidential information and documents.
  • Must be able to interact with parents, students, and witnesses frequently during unpleasant circumstances.
  • Must be able to interact with district teachers, administrators and staff in a professional fashion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Travel both within and without the Unit 10 District by automobile.
  • Must visit schools within the district in a regular fashion and when requested.
  • Must make frequent visits to student residences when absenteeism or truancy is indicated.
  • Coordinate with attendance officers at all schools to determine attendance and absences.
  • Must personally check resident's addresses for newly enrolled students coming into the district.
  • Initiate contacts with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, psychologists, and other staff members regarding absences or attendance problems.
  • Coordinate meetings with parents, teachers, staff and professionals to resolve attendance problems.
  • Must interact with police, probation, courts, alternative schools and other social agency providers to aid and assist students.
  • Must interact with the Regional Superintendent of Schools Office regarding student chronic absenteeism and truancy.
  • Must be able to testify in court and communicate with court officers.
  • Must deliver expulsion packets to parents and guardians.
  • Assist with the student services office in the identification of students who may qualify for homeless services.
  • Coordinate with district staff in providing supports for identified homeless students
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community resources to ensure that McKinney-Vento students are linked to services beyond what the district provides.
  • Interact with the Regional Superintendent of Schools regarding identified homelessness students.
  • Assist in the student services office with enrollment and registration.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
