Summary

As Construction Manager with our Client's Capital Engineering group at Colonial Heights, you will play a critical role in leading and managing projects. You will be responsible for overseeing the successful execution of projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive successful implementation of project plans, allocate and manage contractor resources, and monitor progress.

Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in driving the success of our projects and delivering innovative solutions to our customers.

You will report directly to the Capital Engineering Manager and you'll work out of the Colonial Heights, VA location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Construction Manager (CM) acts as Owner’s Representative for projects execution at Colonial Heights.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, layouts, and process flow diagrams.
  • Oversee project construction, general contractors, and Client-direct trades to assure a high level of quality and safety.
  • Create and review Requests for Information (RFIs) and Change Orders.
  • CM demonstrates strong Safety Leadership with construction contractors in the field. Participates in field contractor audits, CSA (construction safety audits), investigations and toolbox talks.
  • Conduct ‘stand down’ meetings with contractors if a safety violation is found.
  • Verifies that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals and procedures based on Client's CPMP processes.
  • Support construction and documentation to align with project documents and good engineering practices.
  • Provides installation technical support to Project Managers.
  • Assists Project team with project cost/change controls and project budget and accounting records for construction.
  • Assists project manager in bid walks with contractors in the field for budgetary and firm proposals. Respond to RFIs (requests for information) in a timely manner
  • Supervises Daily Timesheets from construction contractors.
  • Reviews Daily Construction Reports (DCR) submitted by each contractor on site every single day.
    • Performs change order estimating and assists the Project Managers in change order negotiations.
  • Supports Project Managers on scope management activities and estimated level of effort for out-of-scope tasks.
    • Walk down and review jobsite conditions including customer meetings, as needed.
  • CM is directly involved in day-to-day site activities.
    • Assists Project teams with schedule updates, construction invoices, and submittals.
  • CM provides information from field reports to support progress forecasting.
    • Assists in managing and reviewing the progress of contractors' construction schedules.
  • CM supports look-a-head schedule planning with construction contractors.
    • Reviews weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts including project costs and potential changes.
  • CM will facilitate the development of change orders by requesting through trades and engineering. CM is not an estimator and will not independently develop change order requests on behalf of trades.
    • Able to identify field interferences with associated costs.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 10 years in Construction Management or Site Superintendent in heavy, chemical-plant, process industry. Interaction with civil, concrete, piping, mechanical, building, electrical and instrumentation trades desired.
  • Familiarity with piping and mechanical systems such as isometrics, manual valves, specialty items, packaged skids, chillers, cooling towers etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation systems such as transformers, MCCs, switch gear, conduit, cable and wire installations.
