Job Location: Colonial Heights, VA (per diem available for non-local candidates)
Schedule: 50 hrs per week (5 x 10 hr days)

Compensation: $40 - $55/hr, depending on qualifications

Overview / Summary:
In this position, you’ll assist in providing technical support, safety training, and site safety oversight. You will be responsible for the enforcement of our Client's Health and Safety Plans and for providing safety oversight and support for large-scale construction projects at a chemical plant. You will work with our on-site lead, construction managers, project management, and contractors to manage the overall construction effort.

You will actively support and contribute towards a positive safety culture . Safety will be your priority, as you contribute to “incident free” operations and maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety in everything you do.

This position serves as a technical expert for managing safety requirements on construction projects, with tasks as follows:
  • Conducts safety surveys at a variety of workplaces to identify and evaluate non-compliance with safety and occupational standards
  • Evaluates safety management effectiveness and recommends to management measures to control hazards and potential hazards
  • Prepares reports and analysis of circumstances, actions taken, and recommendations made for modifications in the accident prevention program
  • Provides feedback information concerning the effectiveness of the control measures to management with recommended modifications, indicated by the analyses
  • Conducts follow-up surveys to evaluate management effectiveness in controlling hazards and to assure management recognizes its responsibility and role in the program
  • Review and/or develop Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for project activities
  • Investigates accidents and reviews accident reports to ascertain facts and identify contributing causes in order to prevent reoccurrence
  • Devises mechanisms to reduce the degree of hazard where it is not possible to eliminate the hazards
  • Attend construction activity preparatory meetings.
Required Qualifications:
  • Background in safety engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and occupational health and safety
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Working knowledge of health and safety hazards associated with various environmental and construction-related activities, such as working around heavy machinery; excavation and trenching; electrical and mechanical systems; tools; crane rigging/lifting; heat stress; confined spaces; elevated work; hazardous and toxic contaminants; flammable and combustible materials; demolitions; hot work; etc...
  • Prior chemical plant experience is strongly preferred
