Position Overview:
Our client is a fast-growing company with a mission rooted in sustainability. They manufacture high-quality products for the entertainment industry. They are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a team that builds cool things and constantly improves. They seek someone with a strong background in cost accounting, exceptional technical accounting expertise, sound professional judgement, and the ability to work independently.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can mentor others, drive process improvement, and serve as a trusted technical resource within the finance team. This role goes beyond day-to-day transaction processing – you will own the month-end close, lead job costing and WIP analysis for our custom-manufactured projects, and mentor junior staff, all while helping the department mature its processes as the company transitions to accrual accounting.
This is an excellent opportunity with a growing company!
- Own the month-end close process end-to-end, including preparing, analyzing, and interpreting complex financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy through detailed account reconciliation and balance sheet review.
- Lead job costing and WIP (work-in-progress) tracking for custom-manufactured projects, including standard-vs-actual cost variance analysis to identify and explain cost overruns or efficiencies.
- Perform journal entries for accruals, depreciation, and other adjustments using Quick Books or equivalent accounting software.
- Review reconciliations and journal entries prepared by junior staff before close, ensuring accuracy and adherence to documentation standards.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and collections to optimize cash flow.
- Manage accounting for transactions across multiple geographic regions, including multi-currency transactions and VAT compliance and reporting.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and maintain audit readiness for internal and external audits.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Partner with Leadership to identify and drive continuous process improvements within the accounting department.
- Mentor junior staff and interns by sharing best practices in technical accounting, bookkeeping, and financial report writing.
- Serve as a senior point of contact for cross-functional teams on accounting matters, providing technical guidance on complex transactions.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in manufacturing or job-cost accounting environments, with a strong understanding of accrual accounting, WIP process management, and GAAP.
- Demonstrated expertise in job costing and standard-vs-actual variance analysis.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Quick Books, Sage, or equivalent systems; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles, including debits & credits and journal entries.
- Experience managing multi-currency transactions and VAT compliance across international sales regions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with effective organizational skills for managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly through written reports and verbal explanations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional certifications such as CPA are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop junior team members, with a proactive, collaborative approach and a strong sense of integrity.
