Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9 - 12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.
The OpportunityFountain Valley School seeks an experienced and dynamic instructor of English for grades 9-12. The FVS English Department cultivates deep engagement with literature, from poetry to prose, through close reading, analytical and creative writing, and discussion-driven inquiry that challenges students to think critically and expansively. Ideal candidates have confidence teaching year-long survey-style courses, as well as the ability to design a semester-long elective that aligns with an area of curricular or personal interest.
Key Responsibilities- Teach 4 sections of English. Demonstrate an ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a department.
- Show an appreciation for the craft of teaching along with a passion for English as a discipline.
- Coach two seasons of athletics/afternoon activities.
- Serve as an adviser to approximately six students.
- Engage with students on a class-level retreat alongside other faculty members.
- Participate in committees as assigned.
- Co-lead an Interim trip (7-10 day experiential learning program).
- Transport students to and from activities using a non-CDL school vehicle.
- Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight duty team.
- Regular and reliable in-person attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate language teaching tools.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and/or obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in English; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferred.
- Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events.
- Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred.

Salary: $42,000 - $60,000, depending on education and experience
