Position Title: Summer Camp Educator Assistant
Department: Education
Reports to: Community Programs Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $16 per hour
Position SummarySummer Camp Educator Assistants support the Zoo’s Summer Camp Educators in delivering fun, engaging, and meaningful environmental education experiences for campers ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade. Assistants help create a welcoming and positive learning environment, encouraging campers to build a lifelong appreciation for animals, conservation, and the natural world.
Qualifications and Requirements- Must be 16-18 years old at the time of hire.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug/alcohol screening.
- Proof of legal U.S. work eligibility required.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (must not expire during summer camp program) is beneficial but not required.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Education or Science Field.
- Ability to assist with group management, including bathroom and lunch breaks and program activities.
- Support an inclusive, dynamic, and guest‑focused experience for program participants.
- Enthusiasm for engaging children with patience and empathy.
- Collaborate with camp leads, educators, and camp directors.
- Willingness to work alongside a variety of animals.
- Maintain prompt and frequent communication with supervisors.
- Conduct work within Cheyenne Mountain Zoo safety guidelines, ensuring personal and camper safety.
- Assist Camp Educators in delivering environmental education experiences for campers K‑6.
- Prepare educational materials and guide small groups.
- Support behavior management and camper safety throughout the day.
- Create a welcoming and positive learning environment.
- Promote professional relationships with staff, volunteers, campers, and families.
- Adhere to all Zoo policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of program facilities.
- Complete internal training programs and required trainings.
- Represent the Zoo professionally and comply with the dress code.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Employees will frequently stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and work with animals under various environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
