Job Description
Summary:
The Music Teacher is responsible for leading a vibrant and developmentally appropriate Waldorf-inspired music program that nurtures students' musicality, creativity, rhythm, and sense of harmony. The teacher works with students in grades 1–8 to foster music appreciation through singing, instrumental instruction, movement, and ensemble work, while supporting curricular integration with classroom and seasonal themes.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Duties:
- Provide joyful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades 1–8.
- Teach vocal music, music theory, rhythm, and instrumental instruction (e.g., recorder, percussion, or other age-appropriate instruments).
- Prepare students for seasonal assemblies, school festivals, and performances in alignment with Waldorf and school traditions.
- Differentiate instruction to meet a variety of student learning styles and musical abilities.
- Integrate music curriculum with classroom themes and seasonal rhythms in collaboration with class teachers.
- Support classroom teachers by introducing or reinforcing songs and musical activities that connect to main lesson content.
Curriculum Development & Planning:
- Design and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with Waldorf pedagogy and Colorado Academic Standards.
- Develop lesson plans, performance pieces, and classroom materials that nurture artistic expression, cultural understanding, and creativity.
- Evaluate and adapt music instruction based on student progress and needs.
- Maintain records of student learning and provide informal assessment through observation and participation.
Classroom Management & Learning Environment:
- Create and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment that encourages student engagement, confidence, and enjoyment of music.
- Ensure proper care, organization, and maintenance of instruments and music materials.
- Promote responsibility and care of shared musical tools and resources.
Professionalism & School Participation:
- Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, communication, conduct, and punctuality.
- Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings, area team meetings, and staff development sessions.
- Participate in school-wide festivals, assemblies, and performances.
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with class teachers regarding curriculum support, behavior, and student engagement.
- Represent the school positively and professionally in all interactions.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the school’s operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred in Music Education or a related field).
- Proficiency in vocal instruction and instrumental instruction for young learners.
- Experience working with children in a classroom or instructional setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Waldorf music teaching experience or Waldorf teacher certification.
- Familiarity with Waldorf music scope and sequence (singing games, pentatonic/flute/recorder work, solfege, etc.).
- Knowledge of seasonal songs and cultural folk music traditions.
- 3-5 years classroom experience within a classroom setting (preferred Waldorf School)
- Colorado State Licensure
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Occasionally required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Close vision required for detail-oriented tasks.
- Work occurs in both office and outdoor settings, with frequent noise and potential exposure to bacterial or viral contaminants due to interactions with youth.
