Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that supports the well-being of children and families within the campus community. The position involves planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote the holistic growth of each child, guided by ongoing observation and assessment. The individual must adhere to all licensing regulations set forth by the Colorado Department of Human Services and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with others.
Responsibilities- Perform duties and responsibilities cooperatively and professionally, treating each staff member, child, family, visitor, and volunteer with respect, courtesy, and kindness.
- Assume responsibility for all aspects of the classroom.
- Ensure materials, equipment, and the learning environment are safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate.
- Plan and implement daily activities and meaningful experiences for small groups, large groups, and individuals to enhance skill development in all domains of learning, including antiracism terminology and language.
- Plan and implement an age/developmentally appropriate classroom schedule, classroom rules, and a room arrangement that supports clearly defined interest areas to promote success for all children.
- Maintain, prepare, request, or purchase materials to ensure they are adequate, appropriate, and safe while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Identify and report children’s individual growth using portfolios and online observation tools that align with Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines.
- Use a variety of appropriate guidance and classroom management techniques to work effectively with children, including positive reinforcement that supports age/developmentally appropriate behavior.
- Responsible for food handling and service to meet USDA and sanitation regulations as required by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
- Administer medications within the scope of delegation by the center nursing consultant.
- Administer first aid treatments and follow documentation requirements.
- Report known or suspected incidents of child abuse and/or neglect to the appropriate authorities as a mandatory reporter.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain Colorado State-mandated trainings for childcare providers, a minimum of 15 hours per year, including 3 hours of social-emotional training.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of early childhood best practices and child development, applying them to all situations.
- Train and orient new staff, substitutes, and student educational assistants.
- Actively support the college’s commitment to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working safely; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting sustainability initiatives and innovation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must hold current Early Childhood Teacher certification. For education and experience requirements, refer to the current Colorado State Licensing requirements for Early Childhood Teachers, and 7.702.45, which states that the applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
