Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Generalist License
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a school setting
  • Experience in trauma-informed practices, crisis de-escalation, or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in using IEP data management systems (e.g., Enrich) is preferred

Job Summary

The School of Excellence is a separate school program operated by the Pikes Peak BOCES, serving students with intensive special education needs, including cognitive, behavioral, and health-related challenges. The Special Education Case Manager is responsible for delivering individualized instruction and behavioral support in alignment with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). This role includes coaching and supporting classroom para educators and instructional staff to ensure effective implementation of IEPs and behavioral strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Instructional Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct instruction aligned with Colorado Academic Standards
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate, timely records
  • Apply best practices and research-based interventions tailored to specific disability categories
  • Case Management & Compliance
  • Participate in the identification, evaluation, placement, and monitoring of students with disabilities in accordance with federal, state, and BOCES procedures
  • Demonstrate proficiency in conducting specialized assessments and delivering services aligned with individual student needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of Colorado’s eligibility criteria for special education and related services
  • Maintain all required documentation and adhere to timelines for compliance with legal requirements
  • Adhere to professional standards set by national and state special education organizations
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Provide coaching and training to paraprofessionals and staff on interventions, accommodations, modifications, and strategies necessary for student success
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Collaborate effectively with school teams, families, and outside agencies to support student success
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to the changing needs of students and the program
  • Behavioral & Program Support
  • Implement effective behavioral management strategies to promote student engagement and appropriate behavior
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet the needs of the program

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on personnel evaluations.

Work Year, Compensation, and Leave

  • This is a full-time, salaried position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Contract includes 179 workdays annually (unless otherwise specified) based on the School of Excellence calendar
  • Earned leave will be provided in accordance with Board policy
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Salary is determined by education and experience, aligned with the BOCES Licensed Salary Schedule or the Alternative Certified Salary Schedule
  • Employment is on an annual contract basis, subject to renewal or nonrenewal by the Board

Working Conditions

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, talking, and hearing required
  • Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/moving items up to 25 pounds
  • Must maintain all required licensure in active status throughout employment
  • May be required to work outside standard hours for meetings or emergency response, including non-traditional schedules as necessary
