About the Division of Youth ServicesThe Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non‑residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre‑adjudicated, sentenced, or committed.
The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non‑residential service providers throughout the State. For pre‑adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Colorado Youth Detention Continuum, a State‑funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

The work unit exists to provide academic, vocational and other educational related services to adjudicated youth in a safe, structured and positive environment where cognitive and affective learning will be achieved.
About the PositionThe Special Education Building Coordinator provides leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating special education programming across Spring Creek Youth Services Center in alignment with the DYS Education Strategic Plan. The Coordinator supports special education teachers and paraprofessionals in all aspects of implementation of the Special Education Process through age 21. The Coordinator also supports parents, administrators, teachers, school social workers, and other professional support staff in meeting the needs of students in need of services.
The purpose of this position is to manage, develop, assess, and evaluate education program components and to develop program guidelines and standards to address the diverse needs of students at Spring Creek Youth Services Center.
- Special Education Administration:
- Coordinate planning, implementation, and ensuring special education programming and child‑find processes across the school are in alignment with the DYS Education Strategy Plan, policies, and federal and state law.
- Follow all rules and regulations of special education law including preparing reports for state and local indicators, submitting data to the Central office, scheduling meetings, and maintaining IEP records and other documents that pertain to special education.
- Facilitate Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings using a strength‑based and family‑centered approach.
- Work with school administrators, community organizations, and state agencies to facilitate special education programming.
- Ensure IEP distribution to all staff participating in the student’s educational program.
- Serve on school data and/or MTSS team.
- Serve on DYS Special Education Advisory Team or other committees related to special education.
- Serve as the special education provider and/or designee for all IEP meetings including referrals.
- Consult with special education teachers with Individual Education Program development and scheduling.
- Coordinate with the student’s special education team to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner prior to any IEP meeting.
- Connect with the special education team to ensure all team members, including parents, are prepared for the content of the meeting.
- Special Education and Child Find Related Assessments:
- Analyze and interpret test results, integrate findings, confer with other team members, and correlate assessment components to draw meaningful diagnostic conclusions.
- Generate data, such as test scores used in reports, and interpret findings for funding sources and agencies.
- Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team, utilizing test results to assist in determining appropriate security level and needs for each individual.
