Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineer to join the Electric Advanced Design team. In this position, you will provide civil and mechanical design as well as technical support for substation and transmission projects. Our system is growing, and we are building our Electric Advanced Design team for the future.
As an integral member of the Electric Advanced Design team, this position provides an opportunity to contribute your civil/mechanical engineering expertise to a wide range of projects. In joining the Electric Advanced Design group, you will gain membership to a highly skilled and experienced team that routinely leverages its technical expertise to serve in our municipal utility’s System Planning and Projects Division.
This position is being posted at multiple levels; based on your experience and skills, will determine which level you are starting at.
Engineer I salary range: $75,566/yr. to $94,474/yr.
Engineer II salary range: $91,395/yr. to $114,254/yr.
Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:- Provide support in the development of design layouts, scopes, and estimates for substation projects
- Assist with the development of physical designs for new substations and expansion of existing substations, including site grading, drainage and erosion control, access roads, and fences
- Perform structural design and analysis of anchorages, steel structures, connections, concrete foundations, and spill containments using industry codes and standards, ensuring adherence to environmental and safety requirements
- Work with Project Managers, Electrical Engineers, Designers, and other Civil/Structural team members to confirm all project requirements are addressed
- Develop project schedules and ensure all tasks are completed on time to support project delivery and completion
- Visit project sites and work with field teams to develop solutions and corresponding designs
- Work with internal and external sources to get designs fabricated, reserve or procure materials, and deliver to the sites
- Review contracts and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering and material standards
- Evaluate and monitor outside consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, bid proposals, and obligations
A bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (Engineering Technology Degrees do not qualify) from an accredited university is required for this position. The ideal candidate should offer 1 or more years of experience in structural engineering, analysis, and foundation design, ideally with experience in the civil/mechanical/structural design of substations.
Additionally, we are interested in whether you have any experience in any of the following areas, so please be sure to highlight them on your resume/application:- Working knowledge and application of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE 113, IEEE, NESC, and others
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with structural modeling software such as STAAD Pro
- Project and contract management
- Substation design requirements and construction techniques
- High-voltage transmission structure and foundation design
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate, using both written and verbal communications, with diverse groups
