Position Overview
Analyst I – Sales Tax analyst at the City of Colorado Springs, CO. Salary ranges from $29.13 to $34.97 per hour. Full‑time, class‑exempt role, Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Work location:
City Administration Building, 30 S Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
- Data Collection & Organization:
Gather and structure data from databases, spreadsheets, and external businesses that collect and remit sales tax to support data integrity. - Data Analysis:
Examine and interpret sales tax records from businesses to identify patterns, discrepancies, and trends, providing actionable insights that guide decision‑making. - Process Improvement:
Develop and implement best practices for data analysis, continuously improving how we collect, audit, and manage tax‑related data. - Quality Assurance:
Conduct regular audits and perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance with sales tax regulations. - Reporting:
Create ad‑hoc reports to answer specific operational questions and prepare weekly or monthly summaries to support cross‑functional areas, ensuring data‑driven decisions are made across the organization. - Construction Project Reconciliation:
Conduct detailed reviews of construction‑related tax data, including economic incentives, tax exemptions, refunds, and compliance audits. - Amended Returns & Refund Oversight:
Verify the accuracy of amended tax returns and refund requests, ensuring compliance with all regulations and policies. - New Sales Tax System Operations:
Support the transition to a new Sales Tax system by assisting with data integrity, reconciliations, and ensuring the system is operating properly.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study.
- One year of full‑time, professional experience in a related field.
- Experience working in compliance or accounting/finance.
- Experience working in federal, state, or local government.
- Intermediate or above Excel proficiency.
