Functional Medicine Nutritionist – Garden of the Gods Resort and Club

Position Purpose & Summary

A Functional Medicine Nutritionist evaluates clients’ health concerns through a whole‑person, science‑based lens to identify root causes of symptoms and imbalances. They conduct comprehensive assessments that may include lifestyle analysis, dietary patterns, medical history, and lab data. Using this information, they develop personalized nutrition and lifestyle plans focused on improving metabolic function, reducing inflammation, supporting gut health, and promoting long‑term wellness.

Key responsibilities include educating clients on gut health, hormone health, nutrient‑dense eating, supplement considerations, stress management, sleep hygiene, chronic illness, mindfulness, and movement strategies. Functional Nutritionists monitor client progress, adjust care plans as needed, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, evidence‑informed care. They also maintain detailed records, uphold ethical practice standards, and stay current with research in functional medicine and nutrition science.

Functions
  • Counsel & coach patients on any dietary issues and healthy eating habits.
  • Develop nutrition plans while considering the client’s budget and tastes.
  • Assess patients’ and clients’ nutritional and health needs by understanding their intake, as well as input from other clinicians. Work collaboratively with other modalities.
  • Evaluate if the meal plans have a positive effect on patients’ health.
  • Create educational material about healthy eating habits.
  • Read and contribute to the latest nutritional research.
  • Speak to groups about the importance of nutrition to prevent specific diseases.
  • Document and proactively track patient progress.
  • Deliver "I Am Proud" service standards and department‑specific signature touch points.
  • Establish cross‑departmental channels of communication among teammates that are consistent and complete.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement dietary‑care plans and provide nutritional counseling.
  • Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients.
  • Advise patients on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications, and food selection and preparation.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
  • Periodically monitor Employee Café food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, food safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Assist in coordinating recipe development and standardization, and develop new menus for food service operations.
  • Develop policies for food service or nutritional programs to assist in health promotion and disease control.
Marginal Functions

  • Interface positively with other departments, offering assistance when needed.
  • Displays care in use of equipment and maintains an organized and professional work environment.

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of diplomacy and team involvement. Needs to be both analytical and detail oriented. Tact, empathy, and self‑discipline required. Must be a confident communicator.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and production issues that arise during daily operations.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, team members, club members, and the general public.
    • Must be able to understand medical, spa and wellness related terminology including the various treatment modalities, equipment, and products. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to assess and treat human maladies and issues. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures.
