POSITION SUMMARY

The Orbital Analyst (OA) supporting the Protected Band operations of the OAS III program is responsible for the real‑time management of operational satellite communications (SATCOM) systems, mitigating risks, and ensuring mission success under time‑sensitive conditions. This role supports protected band communications within the AEHF and Milstar constellations and directly contributes to global mission assurance. The OA will provide on‑site system technical support for satellite anomaly resolution, collaborate with software teams, and perform basic‑level mission planning.

Additional duties include supporting the OA Protected Band Lead in system planning, orbital determinations, architectural analysis, and quantitative analysis. Key responsibilities include reviewing and updating OA training materials, developing technical information reports, procedures, worksheets, job aids, and maintaining proficiency records for assigned personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform orbital analysis tasks supporting satellite operations, including orbit determination, vector estimation, and mission planning.
  • Support special operations such as launch, anomaly resolution, relocation, and disposal activities.
  • Support OA training, certifications, and skill sustainment programs under Lead OA guidance.
  • Generate and provide daily orbital data to support multiple satellite contacts and command and control activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and reviewing technical documentation such as OA procedures, job aids, worksheets, and training materials.
  • Assist in generating orbital products such as ephemerides, maneuver plans, and conjunction assessment messages.
  • Participate in required meetings and generate technical reports.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders and the OA team to ensure product delivery and mission alignment.
  • Provide support for SOC shutdown/restarts and software/database configuration.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of OA procedures, worksheets, and job aids.
  • Participate in simulations, rehearsals, and training exercises.
  • Collaborate with senior OAs to enhance Protected Band mission support capabilities.
  • Support procedure development, data analysis, and other related activities as directed by management.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Astrophysics, Applied Mathematics, or related STEM field required; or 4 years of direct OA experience in lieu of degree.
  • Completion of USAF/USSF Orbital Analyst Level II certification (preferred or within 4 months of hire).
  • Additional training in satellite operations, astrodynamics, or SSA is desirable.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing training materials or instruction for OA functions.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience applying mathematical principles in a technical or operational setting.
  • Prior work with DSCS or WGS systems is preferred.
  • Experience in Space Domain Awareness mission.
  • Experience in supporting modeling, simulation, and analysis of national security space‑related problems is desired.
