Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems provides an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network — Network Engineer III (25-338) to join our talented and diverse team. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2

BMC) program serves as the core element of the Missile Defense System. It is a critical operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the battle, and dynamically control designated networked sensors and weapon systems to accomplish global and regional mission objectives.

C2

BMC supports a layered missile defense capability, enabling an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2

BMC is a vital part of all ground and flight tests, verifying and exercising current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The candidate will serve as a primary Network Engineer supporting the C2

BMC Program. This position is based at HWY
83, Colorado Springs, CO, and is a long-term role; however, it requires the ability to travel to other locations, such as Schriever Space Force Base, CO, Alaska, Guam, and Europe, to perform tasks, including deployments.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the C2

    BMC network at operational sites.
  • Travel to remote locations to carry out network installations, troubleshoot issues, and provide status updates to Program personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with strong writing and presentation skills, proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Thrive in a collaborative and agile environment.
Basic Qualifications
  • Currently holding an active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance.
  • Current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.).
  • Either:
    • – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field plus 5 years of experience.
    • – Master’s degree in a related field plus 3 years of relevant work experience.
    • – 9 years of relevant work experience (alternative to a degree).
  • Maintain DoD 8140 certification throughout the contract period.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for business purposes.
  • Knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF.
  • Network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Firewall knowledge in Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
  • Experience with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.
