Medical Interpreter Sr PRN

Job Overview

The Medical Interpreter, Sr. is responsible for performing full level interpretation and translation work while providing training and mentoring to less experienced or junior interpreters in the related principles, methods and techniques related to interpretation and translation.

No direct patient care, but will provide interpretive services to patients and families of all ages.

• Provides full level interpretation services for patients, families, associates and staff.
• Provides full translation services including discharge instructions and other documents as assigned by the department.
• Mentors junior interpreters during pre-arranged training sessions with focus on helping them to becoming linguistically and culturally responsive.
• Participates in evaluations of new hires by providing feedback and observations to the manager.
• Assists the department manager in completing assessments on ongoing training and overall interpretation or translation processes.
• Participates in department programs or assigned projects as applicable.
• Maintains competency with medical terminology by specialty.
• Utilizes the hospital's electronic medical record system and trains junior interpreters in its use, including documentation regarding appointments, accessing patient medical records, providing statistics and other duties specific to the department.

• Degrees
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience
  • Three (3) years of translation/interpretation experience.
• Licenses & Certifications
  • Certified as a Bridging the Gap (BTG) Medical Interpreter or equivalent is required at the time of hire.
  • National certification preferred, CHI-Spanish or CMI-Spanish credential.

• Based on department needs.

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $23.31 to $34.97
