The Admissions Manager provides management and oversight for the animal admissions department, community cat program, and lost and found program. The role sets clear goals, ensures efficient and compassionate workflows, and fosters a culture of empathy and collaboration. The admissions manager also ensures the team actively supports the community—guiding pet owners through difficult decisions, connecting them with resources to keep pets in their homes, and strengthening partnerships that promote animal welfare.
Through strong, people-focused leadership, this role upholds HSPPR’s mission and drives excellence in both animal care and community service.
- Manages staff and ensures that the HSPPR Admissions Department operates in a coordinated, efficient, and effective manner.
- Manages all aspects of admissions including lost and found services, owner surrender, owner reclaim, owner requested euthanasia, ALE impounds, triage care of sick or injured animals, and multifaceted customer service.
- Fosters an environment of compassionate support to pets and people; provides counseling and resources to guests, understanding of animal-related ordinances, responsible pet ownership, access‑to‑care options, and other intervention services that help keep pets in homes.
- Ensures HSPPR’s cash-handling procedures are followed, including accurate daily close‑out and reconciliation; manages accounts receivable for the department.
- Builds strong community relationships by coaching staff to consistently deliver respectful, empathetic support and clear guidance to all guests seeking help for their animals.
- Manages the Community Cat operations and staff, ensuring the program supports both animal welfare and community needs.
- Engages with community members to provide education, resources, and humane solutions related to free‑roaming cats.
- Oversees the program in the absence of the Community Cat Coordinator.
- Manages Lost and Found Program operations and staff, ensuring the program supports both animal welfare and community needs.
- Engages with community members to provide education, resources, and guidance to help reunite lost pets with their families.
- Oversees the program in the absence of the Lost and Found Coordinator.
- Works to anticipate and resolve conflict and promotes open communication among volunteers, staff, and management. Solicits employee input regarding their work and workplace.
- Collaborates cohesively with all departments to ensure operational excellence. Provides recommendations of procedural changes and assists in the implementation of necessary changes. Problem solves with staff from other departments regarding kennel and shelter procedures and animal needs.
- Supports staff and volunteers; provides quality services to clients, volunteers, and employees recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization.
- Documents staff and volunteer complaints and handles concerns with professionalism and sound judgment. Involves Director of Shelter Operations - COS as appropriate.
- Maintains visibility within the department and communicates significant developments with Director of Shelter Operations‑COS.
- Communicates pertinent information to staff, managers, and directors and ensures supervisors are communicating effectively with line staff.
- Collaborates and problem solves with other department leaders.
- Informs the Director of Shelter Operations - COS of developments that may affect HSPPR or the department including department progress, media exposure, public image, client concerns, and personnel issues.
