Job Summary
The Welder II position is intended for individuals with intermediate-level welding experience in steel fabrication. This role requires performing a wide range of welding operations with moderate supervision, applying various welding techniques, and ensuring that all welds meet company and industry standards for strength, precision, visual acceptance and appearance. The ideal candidate will be confident in their technical skills, knowledgeable about different welding processes, and dedicated to maintaining safety and quality in all aspects of work.
Key Responsibilities- Perform intermediate-level welding tasks using GMAW processes based on project requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications accurately.
- Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, cutting, and aligning components.
- Inspect welds for accuracy (fabrication details), strength, and compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain welding equipment, ensuring it is in proper working condition and reporting any issues promptly.
- Assist less experienced welders with setup techniques, and safety practices when needed.
- Inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws and ensure that all work meets company & quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure efficient workflow.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in the shop.
- Participate in on-the-job training, workshops, and courses to improve welding skills and advance within the welding team.
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification from a recognized welding program is preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in welding or steel fabrication with prior certification.
- Strong proficiency in one or more welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW).
- Ability to read and understand welding blueprints and symbols.
- Familiarity with welding inspection standards and techniques.
- Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards feedback and improvement.
- Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Positive attitude and willingness to collaborate with team members.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Demonstrates initiative and professionalism in daily work.
- Maintains composure and focus under pressure.
- Willing to put in additional hours as needed to achieve/maintain project goals.
Work is primarily performed in a shop environment, which may involve exposure to noise, heat, and welding fumes. Requires the use of PPE, such as welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses. May involve occasional overtime or weekend work based on project demands.
WagesUp to $25.00 per hour depending on experience.
