About the Position
Part‑time Nocturnist Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Colorado Springs, CO.
Key Responsibilities- Rounding and management of overnight CVICU/floor patients.
- Participate in multi‑disciplinary care planning and quality assurance initiatives.
- Provide direct care, counseling, history and physical examinations, and teaching to adult cardiac surgical patients in inpatient, operative, and procedural settings.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develop plans of care and follow‑up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical findings.
- Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Consistently provide high‑quality and timely documentation.
- Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the patient population.
- Assist in the operating room and perform endovascular vein harvesting.
- Discuss patient data with other physicians and professionals in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment to function in an independent role.
- Complete continuing medical education per state regulations and national registry requirements.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the department/division.
- 3+ years of Cardiac or Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU and floor patient management.
- Excellent communication skills; works well in a team environment and can work autonomously.
- Overnight 2/10 schedule (8:30 pm‑6:30 am) with in‑house call management.
- CVICU covered by dual‑trained anesthesiologist/cardiac intensivist, 7 days/week, 24/7 (not in‑house in the evenings).
- Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Colorado.
- Physician Assistant Certification (PA‑C) issued by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Unrestricted DEA permit to prescribe all medications commonly prescribed in practice.
- Eligible to provide services, reimbursable services, and maintain provider status with Medicare and Medicaid.
- Eligible to provide services with no sanctions or exclusion from HHS/OIG or GSA lists.
- Unrestricted medical staff membership, with appropriate practice privileges.
- Prescriptive authority as appropriate, per medical staff service privileging process.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
- Full or provisional prescriptive authority eligibility is required; provider must apply for prescriptive authority as a condition of employment.
- Master’s degree in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Nurse Practitioner Certification issued by the ANCC or AANPCB required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Unrestricted N‑P license issued by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or compact privileges under the multi‑state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- Unrestricted medical staff membership, with appropriate practice privileges.
- Full prescriptive authority.
- Unrestricted DEA permit to prescribe all medications commonly prescribed in practice.
- Eligible to provide services, reimbursable services, and maintain provider status with Medicare and Medicaid.
- Eligible to provide services with no sanctions or exclusion from HHS/OIG or GSA lists.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
- Pay range: $57,500 – $75,382 + 10% overnight differential annually, dependent on applicant’s experience.
- Relocation bonus up to $10,000.

- Continuing medical education (CME) up to $3,500 and up to 5 days annually.
