POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Day Camp Director, this position is in charge of the 3rd-7th Program for campers aged between 8 and 13. This includes supervision of the 3rd-7th General Counselors throughout the summer. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating effectively and professionally with parents, working directly with registrars, and working with groups when needed. ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Ability to plan, lead, organize, and implement program activities
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Ability to work with little direct supervision
- Responsible for overseeing and managing the 3-7 day camp counselors and programming
- Assist in planning and implementing of Day Camp Staff Training
- Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of Day Camp programming
- Assist in evaluation of Day Camp staff throughout the summer
- Assist in maintaining YMCA, ACA, and Social Services Child Care Center standards
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance
- Understand and follow all emergency procedures associated with day camp
- Understand and follow all safety guidelines for day camp
- Clear communication with parents about camper's experiences at day camp
- Ensure that day camp sites are kept clean, organized, and free of litter
- Promote a cooperative, positive, and problem‑solving environment at all times
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a diverse environment
- Ability to work up to 40 hours weekly
- Must have clean driving record with three or more years driving experience
- Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
- All other duties as assigned
- Prepare, develop and implement programs for all ages while working alongside other team leads and specialty counselors. (This may include but not limited to art/science projects, teaching camp songs, planning skits, etc.)
- Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized and sanitary environment.
- Assist in the success of all Youth Programs as needed.
- Maintain a healthy, professional working relationship with all staff under supervision.
- Assist in planning and implementing of Day Camp Staff Training.
- Assist in planning, implementing and evaluation of Youth Programs for ages 5-18.
- Help create and ensure that staff have and adhere to weekly schedules.
- All other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Education or Recreation related field or working towards related degree.
- Must have at least two years experience working at a residential or day camp
- Experience working with children required
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, team building activities, campfires, skits, and physical games
- Must enjoy working with young children
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Must possess and maintain current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Must be fluent in speaking and writing English.
- Must be able to walk up to 2 miles on uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Must possess a valid, USA state issued driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
