YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake is seeking leaders in overnight camp to oversee our units at our overnight and day camp nestled in the heart of the Front Range near Ward, CO.
Our Unit Coordinators oversee one of our resident camper units, ranging from ages 7‑10, 10‑12, or 13‑17 years. Unit camper capacities may range from 50‑100 campers on a weekly basis. Coordinators are responsible for supporting camp counselors in the camper and program experience.
Beyond coordinating and mentoring, we value community and teamwork and welcome staff who are eager to collaborate with and support the rest of our 100‑plus‑person staff throughout the summer.
Key Responsibilities- Supervises a unit with up to 20 camp counselors and 100 resident campers with the support of the leadership team.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance and effectiveness, including daily check‑ins and one‑on‑one feedback sessions.
- Reports directly to the Assistant Resident Camp Director.
- Lives in yurt or tent accommodations with other leadership staff members.
- Oversees programming facilitated by camp counselors that are not led by specialty counselors.
- Works closely with the Assistant Resident Camp Director to deliver a high‑quality evening program (opening campfire) and assist with other evening programs as needed.
- Works closely with the behavioral specialist, health officer, and camp nurses to ensure high‑quality care for campers, including identifying and documenting support needed.
- Works closely with other coordinators as needed.
- Ensures the safety and well‑being of all campers under supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff‑to‑ camper ratios as required.
- Maintains a professional presence for YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake through appropriate staff and camper interactions and adheres to association and camp codes of conduct.
- Assists with check‑in and check‑out days.
- Attends all required staff meetings on time.
- Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Models relationship‑building skills for campers and staff.
- Problem‑solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
- Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and five core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff‑members.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- 21+ years old.
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children ages 7‑17 years preferred.
- Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor skills, archery, arts and crafts, field sports, hiking, outdoor education, mountain biking.
- Completion of child abuse prevention for supervisory staff, staff training, WFA, CPR, AED, blood borne pathogens (provided as part of staff training week).
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
