Position Summary

The Museum Programs Coordinator is a high-energy seasonal role (mid‑May through August) at the Lula W. Dorsey Museum, located at the YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center. This position assists the Museum Director in all aspects of museum programming and operations. Primary responsibilities include planning and implementing history‑focused programs for Day Camp participants, assisting with museum database and collection maintenance, and providing exceptional visitor services.

This position supports the mission‑driven work of the YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center, a family and group conference and retreat center serving approximately 150,000 guests annually.

Essential Functions
  • Under the direction of the Museum Director, plan, develop, and lead history‑focused programs for Day Camp participants (Pre‑K through 8th grade).
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate interpretive museum programs and tours for multigenerational guests.
  • Provide excellent visitor services, including greeting guests, offering tours of exhibits, and answering questions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for all programs and museum operations.
  • Independently open and close the museum facilities as directed by the Museum Director.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support special events or educational initiatives.
  • Assist the Museum Director in Collections Inventory.
  • Update museum database under the direction of the Museum Director.
  • Assist the Museum Director in identifying and preserving museum collections and archives both analog and digital.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Working toward or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, Social Studies, Parks & Recreation, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in K–12 education, preferably in a museum, outdoor education or other non‑classroom setting.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about American History.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning database and collections management.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Current or willingness to obtain Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification (training provided if needed).

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Work is primarily performed in an indoor museum setting, with occasional outdoor activities and events.
