Field Engineer – Heavy Civil / CDOT Projects
Location:
Sheridan, CO | Full-Time | Onsite
Salary: $65,000 – $90,000+ (depending on experience)
We’re supporting a leading heavy civil contractor seeking a Field Engineer to drive successful delivery of complex CDOT, bridge, roadway, and structural concrete projects across Colorado. This role is hands‑on, fast‑paced, and essential to ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the field.

What You’ll Be Doing- Support field operations on bridge, roadway, retaining wall, and structural concrete projects.
- Assist superintendents and project managers with daily construction coordination.
- Track quantities, monitor progress, and help maintain project schedules and cost controls.
- Review, interpret, and communicate project plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Perform field layout, basic surveying, and quality checks to ensure CDOT standards are met.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and change orders.
- Support subcontractor coordination and material procurement.
- Ensure compliance with jobsite safety protocols and CDOT requirements.
- Collaborate with field leaders to resolve issues quickly and keep construction moving.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or relevant field engineering experience).
- 2+ years of field experience on heavy civil or CDOT infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of CDOT specifications, documentation, and inspection standards.
- Experience with bridge, roadway, or structural concrete work is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with construction/engineering software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, HCSS, or similar).
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Solid understanding of safety practices and field operations.
- Ability to work onsite daily and travel locally to project sites as needed.
- Strong personality and professionalism — someone who can communicate well with crews, inspectors, and leadership.
- Hands‑on role with major impact on project quality, schedule, and safety.
