This position is responsible for designing and developing sprinkler systems to prevent or aid fire. Their responsibilities revolve around performing research and analysis, utilizing feedback from customers and other experts, producing prototypes or samples, and coordinating with engineers and technicians. Furthermore, a fire sprinkler designer may design upgrades and enhancements, create testing structures, take part in installing and repairing systems, and conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure the fire sprinkler systems quality and efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Follow all OSHA standards and laws.
- Review customer drawings, and other applicable specifications to determine requirements of projects.
- Incorporate feedback into drawings and 3D model designs.
- Keep up to date on all modern advancements in material and industry technologies.
- Pursue ongoing education in the field.
- Assist with the preparation of submittal documentation, technical data reports, component maintenance manuals, etc. Put together stock lists for material orders on all jobs.
- Ensures that less experienced designers are trained so that design studies, layouts, drawings, calculations, supporting documentation, etc., are properly completed on 2-D / 3-D CAD, AutoSPRINK, 3D BIM coordination with other trades, or other computer applications.
- Read and interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
- Provide accurate schematics per client conditions and analyze and track technical specifications including dimensions, arrangements, and installation procedures.
- Analyze and verify all hydraulic calculations to ensure adequate water delivery in the event of a fire condition emergency.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- Minimum NICET II in Water-Based Systems Layout. Must be eligible to test and receive NICET III within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum 2 years working in a professional environment.
- At least 2 years of experience utilizing CAD software (Hydra
CAD for Revit, Hydra
CAD for AutoCAD, or AutoSPRINK preferred). - Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- An abundance of patience to see a complicated project to the end.
- Ability to think in a three-dimensional manner.
- Minimum 2-year degree in related field (preferred).
- Bachelor s or Certifications (preferred).
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position could encounter light lifting of materials for delivery. Onsite demands would require walking and standing for long periods of time, climbing and descending ladders/steps.
