Location: Leadville
Lake County Public Health Agency is seeking a full-time Deputy Director. The Deputy Director for Public Health provides highly complex professional assistance to and works in tandem with the Director of Public Health. The Deputy promotes the vision, mission, practices, and policies of the Department and the Lake County Board of Health. The Deputy will lead projects and procedures that use successful information sharing, skill building and collaboration within the Department and Lake County Government.
The Deputy will work with the Public Health Director on implementing policy decisions from the Lake County Board of Health and State of Colorado with a priority on improving health equity in Lake County. The Deputy will oversee and implement complex policy objectives, administrative tasks, organizational improvement and performance, compliance reporting, department communications. The Deputy should have a background in Environmental Health, medical care, or another closely related Public Health field.
This position pays a competitive salary, depending upon experience. This is a full-time position that is eligible for benefits.

Essential Functions- Plans, organizes, manages, and provides administrative direction and oversight for major functions and activities of the department; assists in coordinating assigned activities with other County departments, divisions, outside agencies, and the public; and fosters cooperative working relationships among County departments, divisions, and intergovernmental and regulatory agencies, as well as various public and private groups.
- Manages and evaluates financial resources, daily operation, and budget of administrative services. Develops and implements office systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficiency and optimal communication within the department.
- Assures the effectiveness of Public Health programs through program evaluations and daily operational checkpoints.
- Is cross trained, based on background and certifications, to support public health daily programming including but not limited to; front desk administration, vital records, environmental health inspections and initiatives, immunizations, blood lead testing, general public health complaints, tobacco prevention, grant administration, and harm reduction/substance use work.
- Manages compliance with state and federal regulations; and responsible for ongoing quality improvement and efficiency pertaining to internal and external Public Health services and initiatives.
- Coordinates the development of administration and communication-related policies, procedures, plans, manuals, flyers, and tools. Assists in preparing speeches and presentations for agency events and establishes, maintaining, and revises record keeping and filing systems. Will act as Public Information Officer as appropriate.
- Assists and/or leads all State and County Public Health laws and policies.
- Supervises/Coordinates activities of the Public Health staff including assigning and directing work and leaves, making hire/termination decisions, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Acts as a liaison with local health care providers, Lake County Department of Human Services and other community agencies, and the State to develop and implement partnerships to promote the health and welfare of County residents.
- Reports out to and advises the County Board of Health regarding ongoing public health issues.
- Coordinates purchases of departmental supplies and equipment.
- Participates and initiates training in Emergency Preparedness and Response activities related to public health.
- Perform Environmental Health duties as an Environmental Health Specialist or perform Immunization and Blood Lead Nursing duties as a medical professional when applicable.
- Promotes health equity and evaluates Public Health performance in improving Lake County resident’s social determinants of health.
