Overview
Medical Assistant - Primary Care at Axis Health System. The MA provides clinical and administrative support to medical and/or psychiatric providers and their patients in an outpatient setting. The MA prepares for patient visits, performs assigned clinical tasks, rooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs, performs point of care testing, assists in minor procedures, fields patient phone calls, obtains prior authorizations, and maintains patient care supplies.
The MA works with an integrated, multi-disciplinary team and may be assigned to work with primary care providers, psychiatric providers, or both.
- Prepare for patient visits and assist providers with clinical tasks.
- Room patients and obtain clinical information (e.g., medication list, allergies, patient concerns).
- Accurately measure and record vital signs (BP, HR, RR, height, weight).
- Perform point of care testing and assist with minor procedures.
- Administer medications and immunizations as instructed by the RN or medical provider.
- Field patient phone calls and provide information or schedule follow-ups; document communication in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications, tests, referrals, or other supplies when needed.
- Maintain supplies and equipment; ensure rooms are prepared and clean between patients.
- Support provider scheduling and patient flow to help stay on time for visits.
- Facilitate tele-health visits when appropriate.
- Provide patient education as instructed by the medical provider.
- Communicate diagnostic and laboratory results to patients as instructed by the provider.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical support role in a medical or behavioral health setting.
- Preferred experience:
3 years as a Medical Assistant and CMA (Certified Medical Assistant).
- Starting pay is $20.00 per hour (base $19.00 + $1.00 locale differential) and can range up to $23.14 per hour, based on experience and education.

Employee may occasionally lift 15 to 50 pounds. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and occasional climbing or balancing. Ability to sit for long periods at a computer. Travel between Axis Health System locations may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Reasonable accommodations available.
Additional Eligibility RequirementsAnnual Flu immunization, Annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, and BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
